범죄영화의 대표작으로 일컬어지는 스팅 4K UHD입니다.

영화는 매체가 바뀔때마다 봤지만 늘 느낌이 새롭네요. 뭔가 옛날에 대한 향수같은 것도 느낄 수 있고… 긴장감과 유머를 잃지 않으면서도 때론 섬뜩하게, 때론 유쾌하게 감상하게 됩니다. 그리고 그 영화를 경쾌하고 유쾌하게 만들어주는 주제곡 The Entertainer.
1973년 영화라 폴 뉴먼도 그렇고 감독도, 상당수 출연진도 이미 고인이 된지 오래고, 로버트 레드포드도 부가영상 시절(아마도 DVD 부가영상 즈음일거라 생각하는데)에도 자글자글하게 보이는 고전이지만, 시대를 뛰어넘는 무엇인가가 있다는 걸 느끼게 해줍니다.
부가영상의 복원관련 영상에도 나오지만 우리보다 훨씬 보존을 잘하는 미국에서도 필름 훼손이 발생해서 심한 부분을 복원시켰다고 자랑하기까지 하는군요. 필름 그레인은 좀 도드라져 보이는 느낌입니다만. 뭐 폴 뉴먼과 로버트 레드포드의 모습을 보는 것만으로도 뭔가 채워지는 기분입니다.
옛날 영화라 제작 당시 자료보단 출연/제작진들 중 생존한(!) 이들의 회상 들로 채워져 있는 점이 조금 아쉽고, 그 덕에 유니버셜 UHD 특유의 겹치는 복원 영상, 유니버셜 스튜디오 관련 영상이 채워져 있는 점도 좀 아쉽습니다. 그리고 일본어 녹음은 들어가 있는데 우리말은 자막 뿐인 점은 매번 아쉽습니다.
